Living Healthy in Salt Lake

Warning label on Rowenta Iron

"Do not direct steam at people or animals or iron clothes while they are being worn."

I am glad I got that heads-up and so is my dog.  We were both wondering where the third degree burns were coming from.  I thought everybody  ironed their dog!

Laugh Frequently, Stay Healthy, Live Well

Stay Healthy
There are numerous places you can go to lose weight, exercise, and become fit. This is easier if you participate within a community.  Running on a treadmill may be beneficial but it can become boring.  Find ways to combine your exercise with some social interaction.     Our Draper Fitness page will review some of the places and events in Draper and the southern area of Salt Lake County that might help in that effort.

Visit our Wellness page.  OFFER (Organization for Chronic Fatigue and Fibromyalgia Education and Research) has established a new blog that might be of interest.  Find information about other organizations supporting health and wellness in our community.

If you are looking for a way to stay active, check out the For Runners page.  We have provided some links to articles on the prevention and treatment of running injuries.

The news and events page has just been updated. Do you have a desk job but still go to the gym after work?  It may not be enough.  See why.    Also check the calendar to see what might be happening locally.  I try to post events as I become aware of them.  If you are looking for a cycling or running event, the calendar should provide useful information for you.

Since I am a lifetime resident of Salt Lake Valley, the organizations and events I feature will be of special interest those along the Wasatch Front in Utah.  I hope it can be a source of information that you will find useful.
Laugh Frequently

I try to maintain a sense of humor.  In my previous life, I took everything, including myself, way to seriously.  I am more joyful now than I was a year ago.  Nothing has changed for me financially, physically or emotionally other than my attitude.  If you look for humor you will find it.  Believe me when I tell you that the hopelessly absurd is everywhere.   I find laughing good for you, and it is part of my essential game plan for staying alive.  I maintain a blog about living simply  chronicling my effort. Laugh with me or at me, just as long as your enjoying yourself.

This month you will find humorous quotes on the side featuring ridiculous warning labels.  Let me credit my source - mainstreet.com - for the article that provided these.
Live Simply

I died a year ago and was brought back to life (See then Who Am I page for details).  In my busy, professional life in Salt Lake, I had lost perspective on what was important.  I think in large part, this is what was responsible for my poor physical condition and near loss of life.   I  believe it is possible to find balance and live well.  That requires letting go of the minutia that clouds our perception and judgment about what is important in our life.  I am trying to refocus my energy and learn how to do that.  This site is dedicated to the journey and I hope you may find some benefit on visiting here occasionally.
Newsletter

I am currently director of South Mountain Sports Medicine & Rehabilitation in Draper, Utah.  As part of my job I publish a regular e-newsletter for our patients providing tips and guidelines for healthy living.  Our physical therapists contribute and review all submissions to ensure they reflects current knowledge in the field.  If you are interested in receiving this, submit your name and email below.    Your name and email will not be released to anyone.  You can subscribe by clicking here
